Job summary

Daikin Comfort Technologies seeks a Design Engineering Manager to lead the design, testing, and development of HVAC products, aligning customer requirements with cross-functional teams to meet quality and cost targets.

You will supervise multiple design projects, manage budgets, drive DFSS/DFMEA methods, and ensure regulatory compliance with AHRI, ASHRAE, UL and ETL. Applicants should bring 12+ years in HVAC, strong leadership, and deep CAD/CFD proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Technology – Engineering required.
• Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification – preferred.
• Project Management certification – preferred.
• 12+ years HVAC industry experience with product design, development, and launch.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and leads new product developments to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Manages multiple design projects (mix of existing product and new product development) from inception to production focusing on cost, quality, safety and on time delivery targets.
• Provides technical expertise and support to engineering teams, internal business units and external customers.
• Develops and manages project schedules, teams and resources from other technical and managerial stand-point related to modification of existing and new product designs.
• Owns and clearly reports all financial budgeting and exhibit cost consciousness for all expenditures for engineering team.
• In collaboration with Quality organization, accurately reports and acts on any product safety risk identified or notified.
• Keeps leadership informed of project status through communication and providing various reports as requested.
• Leads cross-functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
• Oversees and guides team on design quality, cost and regulatory reviews.
• Assumes ownership for maintenance and updates for purchased part engineering drawings, standards, specifications, and work instructions.
• Defines and implements continuous improvement opportunities, lean initiatives, and designs for manufacturing (DFM) tools.
• Assists with product design by providing guidance based on technical knowledge and experience.
• Leverages engineering analytical tools (e.g., tolerance stacks, FE, and CFD analyses) to facilitate product design.
• Responsibles for effective and error-free preparation of bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests (ECRs).
• Works with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
• Supports agency certifications for both safety (UL, ETL) and performance (DOE, AHRI).
• Interfaces with regulatory agencies and test agencies such as ASHRAE, AHRI, UL and ETL.
• Creates development plans for teams and mentor team members to prepare them for greater responsibility within the organization.
• Participates in additional projects to support ongoing business needs.
