Position Overview

The Senior Human Resource Generalist is responsible for company-wide HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the HR Manager in supporting Vaughn Construction’s HR function. This position fulfills responsibilities in supporting the following functional areas: HR policies and procedures updates, benefits and wellness administration, employee relations, learning and development, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, as well as helping define and improve Vaughn Construction’s work culture and employment law compliance.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists HR Manager in supervising HR staff making assignments as required by ongoing, routine and non-routine workloads.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, best practices, and employee relations matters.
  • Support day-to-day HR operations, including onboarding, offboarding when needed, and maintaining employee records.
  • Partner with Payroll to ensure accurate employee data and changes related to leaves, status changes, and compensation.
  • Respond to human resources-related inquiries.
  • Contribute to HR initiatives and process improvements to enhance employee experience.
  • Generate and analyze ad hoc HR reports and metrics to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees for all HR-related matters.
  • Assists in the preparation of government reports related to HR functions.
  • Maintain employee files and HRIS records in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
  • Processes compensation and position changes.
  • Supports all functions of HR as needed.
  • Acts as a resource for field supervisory contacts to ensure their understanding and compliance with benefit and HR policies and regulations.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
  • SHRM-CP Certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 5-7 years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with a focus on employee relations, investigations, and employee development/lifecycle preferred.
  • Construction HR experience highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA and FLSA.
  • Proven ability to manage leaves of absence and navigate related compliance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision in a demanding environment.
  • Capable of working well under pressure and managing stressful situations with professionalism.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
