Job summary

Smith Industries Ltd in Midland, TX seeks a Senior HSE Manager to lead the health, safety, and environmental program across shop and field operations. You will own the safety system, ensure OSHA compliance, handle incident investigations, and coordinate training and governance with foremen and department heads.

The role requires 3+ years in HSE with management experience, strong communication, and the ability to drive a proactive safety culture in a heavy manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• 3 years of HSE experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or oil and gas, including 2 years in a management role.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, OSHA recordkeeping, and safety aspects of applicable industries.
• Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, and injury case management.
• Strong leadership, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate employees to recognize unsafe work practices and adopt a safety-conscious attitude.
• Ability to facilitate group meetings and training.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
• Current driver's license and an insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of the safety management system and track HSE indicators.
• Coach senior leadership on proactive safety culture and issue resolutions.
• Develop safe work policies and update the HSE Manual and handbook.
• Conduct ongoing safety audits and coordinate with foremen and management.
• Pre-approve work on used vessels and verify permits.
• Ensure qualified personnel and equipment for permit-required spaces and hot work.
• Train personnel in safe work practices and schedule safety meetings.
• Investigate significant incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Manage OSHA recordkeeping, incident and injury management, and WC claims coordination.
• File reports with OSHA, TCEQ, and ISNetworld; maintain safety docs.
• Administer respiratory protection program including medical screening and fit testing.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets and ensure PPE availability.
• Inspect safety equipment and facilities daily or periodically.
• Coordinate with departments on purchasing, production, shipping to meet safety needs.
• Administer Drug and Alcohol Policy.
• Supervisor personnel to ensure accountability and safe work.
• Follow safety policies, wear PPE, and stop unsafe work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
