Job summary

Dark Horse Comics, Inc. is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead HR operations, payroll, benefits, compliance, recruitment, employee relations, and labor relations.

Reporting to the Head of Finance and Administration, you will manage a small HR team and serve as the company’s primary liaison with the union while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local law. Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Business, HR, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of ten years HR experience, including at least three years in leadership.
• Minimum of three years labor relations experience in a unionized workforce.
• Experience advising executive leadership as trusted HR resource.
• Hands-on payroll and benefits administration experience, including tax reporting and audits.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state employment and labor law (NLRA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA).

Responsibilities

• Leads and mentors HR team, fostering professional development and a high-performance culture.
• Oversees payroll, benefits, and audit processes with accuracy and compliance.
• Manages employee and labor relations, including investigations and corrective actions.
• Serves as day-to-day HR contact with the union and administers the collective bargaining agreement.
• Ensures policy, confidentiality, and compliance with laws across the organization.
• Leads HRIS, data reporting, and workforce communications.
