Job summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Senior Generalist of Human Resources to perform high-level HR duties, including onboarding, recruitment, payroll processing, and immigration support. The role partners with the Office of Faculty Affairs, HR, Payroll and Immigration, and the Medical Staff Office to ensure smooth operations.

The Senior Generalist will train and mentor colleagues, back up departments during vacations, and handle typical HR transactions independently.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases; advanced spreadsheet skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; detail- and task-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Assist with recruitment activities including posting positions, scheduling meetings, and coordinating onboarding.
• Coordinate onboarding for staff, faculty, researchers, and students; manage timely processing of information.
• Oversee payroll processes and time-off tracking; update personnel data in HR systems.
• Ensure compliance with immigration-related needs and visa documentation; liaise with ISSO and related offices.
• Manage off-boarding, employee relations, and liaison with labor relations to enforce policies.
