Job summary

The California Department of Health Care Services seeks a Section Chief to oversee the Performance and Classification Section in Sacramento. The role directs HR classification and pay activities, organizational planning, and performance management in accordance with state laws and department policies.

Hybrid telework is available, and the position requires an SOQ with detailed examples of leadership in classification, pay, and workforce planning.

Qualifications

• SOQ required: a narrative discussing qualifications and writing ability.
• SOQ must be no more than two pages, Arial 12, margins 1 inch, include full name and Job Control Number, answer three questions.
• Resumes do not substitute for the SOQ.
• Desirable qualifications: data/compliance, performance management, personnel laws, supervising staff, resolving complex issues, meeting deadlines, stakeholder collaboration, clear information.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage day-to-day operations of the Performance and Classification Section.
• Oversee workload; direct subordinate managers in HR classification and pay; organizational planning and management; employee performance evaluation and management.
• Ensure compliance with State Personnel Board, CalHR laws, rules, regulations, and departmental policies.
