Job summary

Gensler in Chicago seeks an experienced Interior Designer focused on hospitality to lead design concepts through project delivery. You will contribute across concept, design development, and construction documentation, coordinating with consultants and FF&E vendors to achieve award‑level spaces.

You will mentor teammates and drive innovation leveraging AR/VR and other tools while maintaining code compliance and documentation quality. This full‑time role is in the Chicago office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
• 8+ years of interior design experience, including hospitality-focused projects.
• Proficient in Revit, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max and other modeling software.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Proficiency with FF&E selection, finishes, materials, color selections and specifications.
• Interior construction documents and knowledge of applicable codes and safety considerations.
• Strong storytelling and communication skills; ability to communicate design concepts clearly.
• NCIDQ/CID certification required; sustainability experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Visioning and programming for interior design projects, space planning, schematic design, and construction documentation.
• Select and document FF&E, color palettes, fabrics, and lighting.
• Create finish plans, lighting plans, and millwork drawings and details.
• Provide design leadership and documentation during project execution.
• Coordinate with external consultants, product reps, and fabricators.
• Integrate new technology and tools on projects (AR, VR, computational design).
• Support client presentations and develop trusted advisor relationships.
• Support marketing and business development efforts as needed.
• Guide and mentor teammates; QA/QC specifications and construction document sets.
