Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking a Coding Specialist III for Home Health who will perform complex coding activities and ensure accuracy in line with department standards. You will review ICD-10-CM codes, resolve coding edits, and stay current with anatomy, physiology, and documentation guidelines while supporting home health care workflows.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: 6 years coding experience; education may substitute for experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: CPC, CMC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCA upon hire.
• Preferred: Epic knowledge and 3M coding software experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs accurate and timely review of complex coding and abstracting of UTSW accounts utilizing ICD-10-CM code sets.
• Performs complex coding activities meeting productivity and quality standards as established by coding leadership.
• Ability to review and resolve coding edits and back-end coding denials.
• Maintains a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, coding guidelines, and teaching documentation guidelines.
• Maintains understanding of home healthcare services to minimize workflow disruption and ensure coding coverage.
• May lead, train and mentor lower-level coding staff to ensure quality and growth.
