Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center has a new opportunity within the Revenue Cycle Department for the role of Coding Specialist III. Works under general supervision to perform advanced, accurate, and compliant coding of high-complexity surgical, procedural, and interventional specialties within a highly specialized academic medical center environment.

Exercises independent judgment in the review of encounters with complex documentation and regulatory interpretation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 4+ years coding/billing experience required.
• Experience with high-complexity cases preferred.
• Academic medical center experience a plus.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate documentation to ensure accurate coding.
• Identify and mitigate compliance risks in high-complexity encounters.
• Support AI-assisted coding tools within Epic.
• Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory updates and payer policies.
