Job summary

Houston Methodist seeks a Senior Coding Specialist to apply correct coding conventions to patient encounters in a clinical setting. You will abstract and review diagnoses and procedures, correct claim edits, and mentor Coding Specialists while working remotely from Texas.

Ideal candidates have five years of coding experience, CCS or CPC certification, and strong knowledge of ICD-9/10 and CPT coding. Excellent communication and confidentiality are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Five years of professional coding experience.
• Must have CCS or CPC certification.
• Knowledge of ICD-9/10 and CPT codes.
• Strong communication, confidentiality and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with physicians and PO CBO staff to clarify coding.
• Collaborates with management to reduce denials through accurate coding.
• Mentors and trains Coding Specialists and cross-trains staff.
• Responds to internal requests for coding information promptly.
• Participates in coding round tables and ongoing education.
• Codes and abstracts medical records for reimbursement using current guidelines and 3M encoder.
• Reviews records to verify diagnoses and procedures for denials and submits appeals.
• Matches charge documents to ensure correct codes are applied and captured.
