Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Senior Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist for a contract role based on-site in Birmingham, AL and Jasper, AL. The role focuses on accurate medical records processing, chart analysis, data integrity, vital statistics, and releasing information with strict HIPAA compliance.

The ideal candidate will have experience with EMR/EHR systems, VitalChart/ChartFlow or EvriChart, and a strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting Health Information Management, medical records, or related healthcare operations.
• Experience with medical record documentation and electronic health record processes.
• Experience preparing, scanning, reviewing, validating, uploading, and indexing medical records.
• Experience reviewing patient charts for missing or incomplete documentation.
• Knowledge of documentation deficiency management and provider follow-up processes.
• Understanding HIPAA, patient privacy, confidentiality, and information security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, scan, upload, review, validate, and index medical records into the EMR or document management system.
• Review scanned documentation for accuracy, completeness, image quality, and patient identification.
• Upload medical records into ET apps to support coding and record accessibility.
• Retrieve, organize, maintain, and file patient health records as needed.
• Meet productivity and quality standards for document imaging and medical record processing.
• Maintain required productivity metrics and time-tracking documentation.
• Analyze patient records to identify missing or deficient documentation.
• Assign deficiencies to providers per regulatory requirements and policies.
• Follow up on outstanding documentation to support timely record completion.
• Assist with missing-documentation initiatives and provider queries.
• Perform chart pickup, rounding, reconciliation, and related HIM activities.
• Identify and correct medical record errors, duplicate records, and misfiled documents.
• Perform data-integrity activities to maintain accurate information.
• Review records to identify discrepancies and initiate corrections.
• Maintain confidentiality and security throughout all activities.
• Complete birth and death certificate documentation per state requirements and timelines.
• Process birth/death certificates and vital statistics documentation.
