Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer within the AV Core Infrastructure team to design, build, and maintain advanced HIL systems that accelerate validation of embedded controllers and perception systems across next-generation vehicles.

You will collaborate with Systems, Firmware, and Validation to define I/O mappings, harnessing, and test configurations, and deploy automation for bench health.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 4+ years designing, integrating, and maintaining hardware validation systems or HIL infrastructure.
• Familiarity with ECU harnessing, power systems, and signal integrity best practices.
• Proficiency with Linux CLI, Ethernet networking, VLANs, and power distribution.
• Proven cross-functional collaboration, vendor management, and hands-on debugging of complex electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and sustain modular HIL systems for ECU validation across multiple vehicle platforms.
• Develop scalable rack-based test solutions integrating power distribution, network infrastructure, and environmental management for high-availability operations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Systems, Firmware, and Validation Engineering to define I/O mappings, harnessing, and test configurations.
• Deploy automation and monitoring systems for bench health, including power cycling, network diagnostics, and logging infrastructure.
• Drive lab capacity expansion projects, including facility layout, power/network planning, and thermal management.
• Continuously innovate to improve efficiency, reusability, and modularity across the HIL fleet; contribute to design libraries and shared tools.
• Complete bench bring up, parts ordering, and integration of components ranging from boards to sensors.
• Support flashing and configuration changes and develop preventative maintenance processes to ensure bench fleet health.
• Be hands on the ground for rapid responses to bench related issues.
