Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a lead sign crew member to oversee installation, maintenance, and inventory of highway signs, paint, and thermoplastic markings. You will operate heavy equipment and coordinate traffic control per SCMUTCD standards.

This role requires two years of related experience, a valid driver's license, and future attainment of a Class A CDL within six months. On-site work with potential for extended hours in adverse conditions.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Lead sign crew and manage sign inventory and installation.
• Operate equipment such as tandem dump truck, backhoe, and motor grader.
• Set up traffic control according to SCMUTCD standards to warn motorists of road work.
• Enter time, order signs, and maintain year-end inventory; conduct safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
• Perform daily preventive maintenance on crew equipment and inspect for leaks, tires, belts, hoses.
• Oversee safety practices and training for crew; conduct night inspections and maintenance planning.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended or 12-hour shifts.
