Job summary

The State of South Carolina invites applications for a Crew Leader in the Maintenance division. The role directs maintenance work including driveway installation, drainage structures, signs, and debris removal across assigned projects.

Responsibilities include daily safety instruction, flagging operations, and operating heavy equipment such as backhoe, excavator, loader, and other machines on the Hot Crew. You will supervise tasks, enter daily work into HMMS, and assist with reporting.

Responsibilities

• Serves as crew leader directing maintenance work including driveway installation, repair, relocation and regular maintenance, clearing of R/W, drainage structures, crossline pipe repair, signs, debris removal.
• Instructs crew daily in safety practices such as flagging operations, wearing safety equipment, vehicle safety, or when working with job site hazards.
• Operates heavy motorized equipment on the Hot Crew (e.g., Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, Lowboy Truck Tractor, Motor Grader, Slope Mower, Tractor with Ditcher).
• Leads traffic control operations for work zones, including flagging traffic for safety of crew and public.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow and protect workers, public and equipment.
• Assists with HMMS data entry, daily task assignment, crew scheduling, and preparation of daily/weekly/monthly/annual reports; trains subordinates on equipment usage.
• Assists Crew Foreman as needed.
• Assists in on-call operations for after-hour emergencies and inclement weather plans.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
