Job summary

PRIME AE Group is seeking a Highway Engineer III for its Transportation team in Indianapolis or New Albany. The role entails leading roadway design from concept to construction, coordinating with clients and agencies, and guiding junior engineers while ensuring quality and schedule alignment.

Ideal candidates bring 6+ years of highway experience, an EIT certification, and proficiency in ORD, MicroStation, and Civil 3D, with a preference for PE licensure or the ability to obtain it.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 6 years of highway/transportation engineering experience.
• EIT certification required; PE license preferred or obtainable.
• Experience designing roadway and transportation infrastructure for state/local agencies.
• Proficiency with ORD, MicroStation, Civil 3D or similar software.
• Knowledge of AASHTO, INDOT, MUTCD, ADA standards and guidelines.
• Strong engineering judgment for evaluating alternatives and practical design solutions.
• Strong communication and management skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform and coordinate highway and roadway design activities from concept through final design and construction documentation.
• Develop roadway alignments, geometric layouts and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Prepare and review plans, specs, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Utilize ORD, MicroStation, Civil 3D to develop and review design models and documents.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support schedules, budgets, quality control, and deliverables; mentor junior staff.
