Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is hiring a Road 3 Design Transportation Engineer Associate to join the Design Bureau in Ames. You will contribute to highway design projects and collaborate with stakeholders to advance transportation improvements in Iowa.

Responsibilities include engineering studies, producing highway designs in line with national and Iowa DOT guidelines, and performing analyses using advanced civil engineering software, including 3D modeling and visualizations, to support

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field, or engineering management.
Engineer in Training certification or equivalent; licensure as a PE within 6 years.
Experience with 3D design and analysis for highway projects.

Responsibilities

Participate in studies and develop alternatives for highway improvements.
Analyze data to determine operating characteristics of proposed projects.
Produce highway designs aligned with national and Iowa DOT guidance.
Collaborate with a team to balance safety, mobility, and environmental impacts.
Perform design and analysis using advanced civil engineering software, including 3D modeling and visualizations.
Prepare roadway construction plans with clear conveyance of project scope.
