Job summary

The Oregon Department of Transportation in Portland seeks a Senior Construction Specialist to support our mission of delivering a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system.

You will play a key role ensuring projects are built with high quality and that public funds are used properly by assisting the resident engineer in contract administration per standards, and proactively resolving construction issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or FE exam with experience
• Experience in construction inspection and contract administration
• Experience interpreting construction plans and specs
• Knowledge of mathematics, survey principles, and engineering/construction practices

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate field inspection activities on complex highway construction projects.
• Review contract work for compliance with plans and specifications; accept/reject work per standards.
• Monitor consultant inspectors and contractor progress on projects.
• Assign inspection work and adjust to meet schedules and staffing.
• Review contractor claims, time extensions, and contract change orders.
• Maintain relations with contractor, public, local agencies and project personnel.
• Direct and review work of assigned staff through project duration.
• Provide a safe work area by reviewing contractor operations.
• Participate in contract plans/specifications development as a project team member.
• Train personnel in construction methods, inspection, materials testing and contract administration.
