Job summary

The Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Specialist 2 – Construction Inspector in White City to inspect construction materials, review plans, and document contractor activities, ensuring compliance with contract specs and safety standards.

You will perform field inspections 70% of the time, handle data, support project teams, and coordinate with officials while prioritizing safety for workers and the traveling public. Requires appropriate engineering degree or experience.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in engineering construction inspection, surveying, materials inspection and/or testing.
• An associate degree in civil or transportation-related engineering with one year of engineering technician experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in civil or transportation-related engineering.
• An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Responsibilities

• Interpret contract plans and specifications to ensure safety and contractor compliance.
• Inspect and document contractor work for adherence to project requirements.
• Evaluate materials and equipment for compliance with specifications.
• Monitor field activities such as rock placement, grading and paving for proper methods and testing.
• Coordinate with city and county officials to align work with local rules.
• Calculate quantities and review field data to validate measurements.
• Enforce environmental and erosion control requirements while following project provisions.
• Work in the field 70% of the time; may involve overtime, night shifts, and travel.
