Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Specialist II for the Weaverville Resident Engineer's Office. The role monitors contractor operations, confirms conformance to plans and specifications, and may serve as lead inspector on large, complex highway projects.

You will supervise technicians, review test reports, and coordinate with contractors, utility owners, and DOT staff. Willingness to work nights, weekends, or travel as required is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts to various customer groups.
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
• Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and administer phased construction projects under heavy traffic volumes.
• Supervise technicians and CEI staff to ensure inspection adequacy across projects.
• Review test reports and ensure proper sampling, testing, and documentation.
• Coordinate with contractors, utility owners, and DOT staff on project execution.
