Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician I in the Durham Resident Engineer’s Office to support construction inspection on roadway projects, including surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control.

This position involves both office and field duties, may require nights or weekends, and requires safe operation of a motor vehicle and safety toe shoes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of construction inspection and surveying concepts.
• Familiarity with standards, specs and plan reading.

Responsibilities

• Support higher level technicians or engineers in field inspections.
• Conduct surveying, materials sampling, testing and data processing.
• Assist with erosion control and construction traffic management.
• Perform office and field calculations and daily reporting.
