Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Substation/Transmission Engineer to lead high voltage projects nationwide, with a focus on the western states. You will oversee design and construction, coordinate with EPCs and utilities, and ensure interconnection and grid requirements are met.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering or higher with emphasis on Power Systems.
• Senior: 7+ years of design experience in HV substation or transmission.
• Non-senior: 4+ years of design experience in HV/Transmission fields.
• PE Licensure in AZ, CA, HI, NV, or UT is preferred.
• Experience with HV EPCs, Power Utilities and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor design and construction activities for HV substations and transmission lines (35kV–500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with HV contractors.
• Review Substation EPC designs for compliance with interconnection requirements and standards.
• Provide design review and resolve technical issues in project documents.
• Coordinate power system studies (load flow, short circuits, harmonics, TOV, insulation coordination).
• Direct coordination with Interconnection Providers to design substations per requirements and AES specs.
• Coordinate generation tie-line design with EPC and stakeholders to meet project needs.
• Support substation commissioning by reviewing testing procedures with utility/ISO.
• Growth opportunity within the engineering team with leadership potential.
• Collaborate with real estate, permitting, interconnection, attorneys, finance and construction in field.
• Travel 25% to projects nationwide, focusing on wind and PV/BESS in the western US.
