Job summary

Harris County is seeking an experienced HHW Supervisor to oversee daily collection, handling, and disposal activities in accordance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The role requires strong technical knowledge of hazardous materials management and the ability to lead field technicians in safe operating practices.

You will document operations, mentor staff, assist the public with questions, and coordinate with vendors.

Qualifications

• HSD or GED required; associate degree or higher in a scientific discipline preferred.
• 5+ years HHW service or similar facility experience.
• Must complete 40-hour HAZWOPER within 2 months of employment.
• Forklift operator training or certification within 6 months.
• Valid Texas driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to tow a trailer with county vehicle.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Outdoor work and safety-focused mindset required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day HHW collection, handling, and disposal per regulatory standards.
• Provide team lead guidance to HHW Technicians through field assessments.
• Document inventory and support shipment forecasting and readiness.
• Assist the public with questions and guidance on HHW services.
• Identify training needs and support program improvements.
• Report issues that may disrupt operations.
