Not disclosed East London heritage consultancy is seeking a Senior Heritage Architect to oversee conservation, adaptive reuse, and documentation for historically significant structures in a hybrid office/remote role.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heritage legislation, materials, and conservation methodologies, and will collaborate with heritage authorities and project teams to preserve and enhance South Africa's built heritage.

Qualifications

• 7+ years post-registration experience in heritage architecture.
• Experience in heritage assessments, conservation planning and refurbishment.
• Knowledge of South African heritage legislation and policies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct heritage impact assessments and develop conservation management plans.
• Prepare detailed documentation for heritage registers and conservation guidelines.
• Lead architectural design for adaptive reuse and refurbishment of heritage buildings.
• Provide expert advice on conservation best practices, materials, and techniques.
• Liaise with heritage authorities (SAHRA and agencies) and stakeholders.
• Develop detailed architectural drawings and specifications for heritage projects.
• Oversee implementation of conservation works ensuring adherence to heritage principles.
• Research historical building typologies and construction methods.
• Mentor junior architects and heritage consultants on conservation projects.
• Stay updated with national and international heritage conservation policies and best practices.
