Qualifications

• 7+ years post-registration experience in heritage architecture.

Responsibilities

• Conduct heritage impact assessments and develop conservation management plans.
• Prepare detailed documentation for heritage registers and conservation guidelines.

About the Role

Our client, a respected architectural and heritage consultancy, is seeking a Senior Heritage Architect to join their dynamic team based in East London. This role is critical for the conservation, adaptive reuse, and sensitive integration of heritage buildings and sites within contemporary development contexts. You will be responsible for conducting heritage assessments, developing conservation strategies, and guiding the design and documentation processes for projects involving historically significant structures. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of heritage legislation, conservation principles, historical building typologies, and materials. You will work closely with heritage authorities, clients, and project teams to ensure the preservation and sensitive enhancement of South Africa's built heritage. This hybrid position offers a blend of collaborative office work in East London and the flexibility of remote contribution. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Professional registration as an Architect with SACAP.

• Demonstrable experience in heritage assessments, conservation planning, and heritage building refurbishment.
• In-depth knowledge of South African heritage legislation and policies.
• Strong understanding of historical building materials, construction techniques, and conservation methodologies.
• Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and relevant documentation tools.
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
• A portfolio showcasing heritage projects is highly recommended.
• Experience working with various heritage bodies and consultants.
