Job summary

Orange County Government’s Solid Waste Management Division in Orlando seeks Equipment Operator III/IV to safely operate heavy equipment, perform inspections, and assist with grading and paving projects. The role requires a Florida CDL and the ability to handle diverse duties in varying conditions.

Open Date: 10/19/2026; Close Date: 11/17/2026. Benefits include holidays, PTO, and retirement plans. Placement based on education and experience. Select candidates will undergo pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• Must understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for the equipment operated; license required or obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine safety inspections of assigned equipment.
• Perform minor maintenance checks (oil, fuel, water, air); clean and wash equipment.
• Set up barricades and act as spotter/flagman.
• Participate in general labor duties.
• Work in varied conditions including adverse weather and odors.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, dump trucks, bulldozers, etc.) according to specifications.
• Assist in grading and asphalt work as needed.
• Supervise or assist other equipment operators on projects.
