Job summary

Highlands County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a semi-skilled operator for the Solid Waste department to run light construction equipment and perform routine maintenance. You will inspect loads, advise on disposal methods and help maintain equipment in good working order.

The role requires the ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions, follow safety policies, and produce daily activity and inspection reports for DEP compliance.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or GED preferred.
• Minimum of one year experience with operation/maintenance of construction equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain FL CDL Class B or higher within 6 months of probation.

Responsibilities

• Operate landfill light equipment such as articulating trucks, water trucks, tractors and loaders.
• Perform routine manual labor and maintenance on equipment.
• Inspect loads for restricted items and instruct proper disposal.
• Prepare daily reports and inspections, logs and manifests.
• Ensure safety policies are followed and work area remains professional.
