Job summary

City of Annapolis (MD) seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to operate backhoes, dump trucks, street sweepers, and other large machinery. The role requires safety-focused operation and the ability to follow complex instructions from supervisors.

Two years of heavy equipment experience and a Maryland Class B CDL are required. Snow removal training and willingness to respond to emergencies are essential. Work is on-site with potential overtime and callbacks.

Qualifications

Completion of a standard high school course (or GED equivalency).
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of experience and training providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Possession of a valid Maryland Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Completion of required snow removal training.
Availability for emergency overtime work and emergency callbacks.
Consent to chemical substance screening consistent with mandated guidelines.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy motor equipment safely under all weather conditions.
Follow supervisor guidance and standard procedures; ensure safety and economy of operation.
Direct/helpers as job requirements dictate during collection routes or other assignments.
