Job summary

Baltimore County is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Operator to maintain and support the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Utilities Pipeline Maintenance. The role involves operating tandem-axle trucks and related equipment, with responsibilities including snow plowing, equipment towing, and routine maintenance.

Applicants must have experience with tandem-axle vehicles and possess a Maryland CDL class B (or higher).

Qualifications

One year's experience in driving tandem-axle commercial weight vehicles or operating equipment as listed in examples of essential duties.
Possession of a valid Maryland commercial class B driver's license at time of application; some positions may require class A.
Current Medical Examiner's Certificate per FMCSA regulations; license and certificates must be maintained throughout employment.
Ability to read street signs and routine written material.

Responsibilities

Drive tandem-axle commercial weight vehicles and operate attached equipment.
Salt and plow roads during snow emergencies.
Tow heavy construction equipment.
Operate mechanical street sweeper to clean streets and gutters.
Perform preventive and routine maintenance; assist mechanics with major repairs.
Keep simple records and logs.
Participate in safety training including hazardous materials handling.
