Job summary

The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) State Equipment Fleet is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving! You will maintain heavy- and light-duty equipment used in the construction and maintenance of roads, rural airports, and other public vehicles.

Qualifications

• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair and maintenance.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions, information, or obstacles.
• Vehicle maintenance knowledge of engines, parts, and systems, including design, repair and maintenance.
• Self-management with initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Maintain heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used in road and airport work and other agency fleets.
• Diagnose, repair, and modify systems such as transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine, emissions, fuel injection, hydraulics, and brakes (air and electrical).
• Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using various repair techniques and methods.
