State of Alaska DOT&PF is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to maintain and repair equipment used on roads, runways, and other state operations in Alaska. The role involves diagnosing complex problems across transmissions, drive trains, suspensions, engines, and hydraulics, with travel to remote sites as needed.

Ideal candidates demonstrate strong mechanical skills, flexibility, and self-management, with the ability to work independently and in teams.

Qualifications

• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use and repair requirements.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing information, conditions or obstacles.
• Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, systems, and repair needs.
• Self-management with initiative, minimal supervision, and timely completion of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain heavy-duty and light-duty equipment for road, airport, and other state vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair complex equipment problems using diverse techniques.
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drivetrains, suspensions, engines, emissions, fuel systems, hydraulics, brakes and electrical systems.
