Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission in Big Spring, TX is seeking a Security Officer III to perform highly complex security services at the State Hospital campus. You will patrol grounds, direct staff and visitors, monitor alarms, and assist in emergencies.

The role includes occasional switchboard duties and disaster recovery activities. The position requires experience in law enforcement or security, with preference for mental health facility security.

Qualifications

• Four years or more continuous work experience in law enforcement, security or corrections.
• Three years or more security experience in a mental health facility.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital grounds to monitor and mitigate unusual occurrences such as trespassers, vandalism, and emergencies.
• Provides security to the hospital campus and directs visitors; opens hospital gates as appropriate.
• Writes reports and documents incidents or events in and around the hospital grounds; compares and coordinates with a dispatcher as needed.
• Responds to fire alarms and emergency situations; operates switchboard and alarm systems as requested.
• During the Security Supervisor absence, assists with department scheduling and reporting; supports disaster response and COOP activation.
