Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Vernon, TX seeks a Security Officer III to protect patients, staff and facilities at Vernon State Hospital. This full‑time role offers evening shifts with some travel possible, and no telework eligibility.

The position requires 4+ years in law enforcement/security, 3+ years in a mental health setting, a Texas driver license, and CPR/AED certification preferred. You will patrol grounds, handle incidents, and operate state vehicles as needed.

Qualifications

• Four years or more continuous work experience in law enforcement, security or corrections.
• Three years or more security experience in a mental health facility.
• Valid Texas driver license; ability to drive state vehicle.
• CPR/AED preferred; willingness to be certified within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital grounds to monitor for unusual occurrences and ensure safety.
• Provide direction to visitors, staff and patients; document incidents and respond to emergencies.
• Operate switchboard, fire alarm and dispatch lines as needed; support COOP and disaster duties.
