Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services, Big Spring State Hospital, invites applications for Security Officer III. The role involves patrolling grounds, guiding staff and visitors, and handling temporary switchboard duties while supporting the Security Supervisor.

Eligible for overtime on evenings/nights/weekends. Requires 4+ years in security or law enforcement, valid Texas driver license, and ability to pass background checks.

Qualifications

• Four years or more continuous work experience in law enforcement, security or corrections required
• Three years or more security experience in a mental health facility required
• Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date to drive a state vehicle
• Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, LEIE
• All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility

Responsibilities

• Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule
• Patrols hospital grounds to monitor and mitigate unusual occurrences
• Monitors and directs daily activities and work performance of junior security officers
• Provides security to the hospital campus and assists visitors
• Performs temporary switchboard duties as requested
• Checks points of ingress and egress and investigates incidents
• Represents the security department in meetings and events
• Reports to areas when fire alarms sound and assists during emergencies
