Job summary

Elevance Health is seeking a Senior Group Underwriter Consultant to determine acceptability of risks and set appropriate premium rates for large, complex group cases. You will lead technical underwriting, mentor associates, and collaborate with Sales, Actuarial and Finance to align pricing with business goals.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in a related field with 7+ years of related experience
• Experience handling large and complex group cases is required
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills are essential

Responsibilities

• Develops and evaluates pricing and renewal strategies based on experience, demographics, plan design, market conditions, and other risk factors.
• Monitors underwriting workflow, business results, internal controls, and adherence to policies and guidelines.
• Evaluates and guides underwriting exceptions, balancing risk, competition, and business objectives.
• Collaborates with Sales, Account Management, Actuarial, Finance and other partners on pricing, sales and renewal strategies.
• Acts as a subject matter expert on underwriting methodologies, rating practices, risk assessment and business processes.
• Manages a portfolio of large and complex clients, providing underwriting analysis and ongoing consultation.
• Participates in cross-functional initiatives to improve underwriting processes and efficiency.
• Provides technical guidance and mentoring to underwriting associates.
• Calculates renewal rates for large complex cases based on experience, location and demographics.
• Coordinates with other departments to ensure accuracy of account reporting.
• Proposes rates for prospective business using experience and market data.
• Performs post-sale reviews and supports annual settlements and rate projections.
