Job summary

Umbra is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for its Space Systems team in Santa Barbara/Goleta, CA. Lead multi-disciplinary engineers, drive design, test, and deployment of cutting-edge satellite technology, and report to the VP of Space Systems.

Collaborate across hardware, software, and product teams to advance mission-ready solutions. You will mentor engineers, manage resources, and apply agile methodologies to ensure high-quality delivery in a fast-paced, engineering-driven

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM field.
10+ years in aerospace engineering with 5+ years in space vehicle design.
5+ years direct engineering personnel management.
Proven leadership with hiring, performance management and succession planning.
Proficiency in project management practices and scheduling tools.
Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and tooling.
Proven ability to mentor high-performing teams in complex environments.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Oversee a multi-disciplinary Space Systems team and ensure technical quality and schedule performance.
Support professional growth and career development for spacecraft engineers.
Drive innovation and process improvements in engineering practices.
Collaborate with project, product, and technical leads to align scope and delivery.
Manage workload, assignments, and conflict resolution; conduct quarterly evaluations.
Lead headcount planning, onboarding, and training with stakeholders.
Represent team needs in technical meetings and coordinate with VP Space Systems.
Apply agile methodologies to sprint planning and progress tracking.
