Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. seeks an AVP Government Affairs to plan, implement, and coordinate programs affecting government policy across the Midwest region, including Illinois.

This role requires building relationships with state officials, coordinating with line managers, and ensuring compliance with lobbying laws. The successful candidate will manage multiple state and local relationships, identify grant opportunities, and represent the company in state railroad associations and planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
• Minimum five years in transportation with three years engaging decision makers in rail.
• Public/private sector relationship management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relations with state DOTs and legislators representing the company's interests.
• Understand the railroad operations, routes, and investment needs.
• Represent interests in rail associations and regional planning groups.
• Identify rail infrastructure projects eligible for public funding.
• Coordinate with regional managers to ensure compliant lobbying activities.
• Maintain records and manage travel schedule.
