Job summary

Deschutes County is seeking a Senior Accounting Technician to provide advanced accounting, payroll review, reconciliation, and financial reporting support within the Administrative Services team. The role focuses on accuracy, compliance with governmental accounting practices, and applying county policies across financial operations.

The position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of governmental accounting, and the ability to guide staff on accounting procedures and financial system

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in accounting or related field; 4 years of financial accounting experience.
• Public health or health services accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with governmental accounting bases.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with Tyler Munis accounting platforms.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile financial reports, accounts, ledgers, payroll records, expenditure reports, revenue records, purchasing records, and other fiscal data for accuracy and compliance.
• Review financial transactions for proper coding, documentation, authorization, budget alignment, and adherence to County policies.
• Perform advanced technical accounting duties related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, grants, purchasing, budgeting, cost tracking, and year-end close processes.
• Research and resolve discrepancies in accounting records, payroll entries, invoices, purchase orders, deposits, and journal entries.
• Review payroll records, timesheets, leave balances, pay codes, overtime, deductions, and payroll adjustments for accuracy and compliance.
• Train and provide technical assistance to staff on accounting procedures, payroll review, and financial system use.
