Job summary

Florida Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Accountant III in the Revenue Unit, based in Tallahassee. You will handle deposit refunds, bank deposits, and reconciliation of deposits with accounting systems, ensuring timely and accurate recording in the state's accounting records.

Working under the Division of Administrative Services, you will monitor GAAP compliance, prepare financial reports, and support management with budgeting and process improvements.

Qualifications

• At least three years of verifiable related experience in accounting or governmental accounting.
• Post-secondary degrees may substitute for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted for foreign degrees.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process deposit refunds and bank deposits; reconcile deposits with accounting systems.
• Ensure receipts are deposited timely and recorded accurately in accounting records.
• Monitor revenue, disbursements, expenditures, and other financial activity for GAAP compliance.
• Compile and analyze financial data; prepare detailed reports and budget/accounting recommendations.
• Perform pre-audit and payment processing of expenditures; verify codes, documents, and authorizations.
• Assist with researching financial transactions and correcting errors; record entries in State’s financial system.
• Conduct monthly/quarterly/yearly compliance reviews of department transactions.
