Job summary

Detroit Housing Commission is seeking a Financial Accountant III to perform professional accounting work, including preparing and analyzing fiscal records, reconciliations, and monthly closing. Responsibilities include generating financial statements, variance analyses, and HUD reporting within a government context.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor's in accounting, five years in public accounting, and preferably Yardi experience and CPA licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting and five years of public accounting experience preferred.
• Must have strong GAAP knowledge and ability to apply accounting principles in governmental context.
• Experience with accounting software and general ledger systems; Yardi experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze supporting schedules and work papers for accounts and programs, including external audit.
• Prepare financial statements and management reports, including budget vs. actual variance analyses.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of accruals and postings.
• Assist with HUD-related reporting and compliance within governmental framework.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and assist with year-end closing activities.
• Provide timely, accurate accounting information to stakeholders.
