Job summary

Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority in Akron, OH seeks a Senior Accountant for Financial Reporting & General Ledger to manage journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and HUD reporting. The role reports to the Director of Finance and supports monthly close and audit processes.

Qualified candidates have at least five years of governmental accounting experience, knowledge of HUD programs, and a CPA, CGFM, or similar certification is preferred. Excellent benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and audit support, is preferred.
• Governmental or public housing accounting experience relating to multiple HUD programs and grants is strongly preferred.
• CPA, CGFM, or other relevant professional certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares journal entries and reconciliations as part of monthly and year-end close.
• Performs monthly balance sheet reconciliations and researches unusual or out-of-balance items.
• Prepares Financial Data Schedule components and HUD reporting support under Controller direction.
• Assists with audits and component-unit reporting, including ACFR support and grant reporting.
