Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking an Automation Engineer to lead controls and automation strategy across processing, packaging, and end-of-line operations. You will drive architecture standardization, qualification, and regulatory compliance with a global perspective.

You will collaborate with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer proven solutions and scale innovative automation across facilities, while ensuring safety and project execution excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Automation/Robotics or related field with 5+ years in industrial automation.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks; familiarity with safety systems.
• Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• Willingness to travel domestically >50% and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and standardization of controls architectures and automation standards globally.
• Qualify and validate automation equipment to ensure performance and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct safety assessments and ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, UL and codes.
• Collaborate with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer and adapt technologies.
