Job summary
Smithfield Foods is seeking a seasoned Automation & Controls Engineer to lead qualifications, validation, and deployment of advanced automation across processing and packaging. You will shape architecture, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and partner with global engineering teams to transfer best practices between the U.S.
and Asia. You’ll drive capital projects, evaluate equipment, and collaborate with OEMs to scale AI-enabled inspection and digital manufacturing solutions while
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Automation and 5+ years of related experience.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, controls architecture, and machine safety systems.
- Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and safety systems.
- Experience with global engineering teams and multi-site manufacturing preferred.
Responsibilities
- Automation & Controls Strategy: Lead development and standardization of architectures, PLCs, HMIs, networks, and standards.
- Technology Qualification & Validation: Lead qualification and acceptance testing of automation and inspection tech.
- Machine Safety & Compliance: Conduct safety assessments to meet OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, UL standards.
- Global Technology Transfer: Collaborate with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer best practices.
- Innovation & Smart Manufacturing: Develop AI-enabled inspection and digital manufacturing solutions with OEMs.
- Equipment & Systems Evaluation: Assess processing, packaging, robotics, and end-of-line systems.
- Capital Project Leadership: Serve as lead for strategic automation projects and compliance mods.
