Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Senior Global Automation & Technology Engineer to lead automation strategy across processing, packaging, and end-of-line operations, coordinating with U.S. and China teams.

You will specify controls architectures, qualification, safety compliance, and scalable digital manufacturing solutions, while guiding global technology transfer and supplier assessments. The role requires 5+ years in industrial automation and travel, with a strong emphasis on leadership

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Robotics or related field.
5+ years in industrial automation, controls, robotics, or manufacturing engineering.
Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, networks, and safety systems.
Experience with robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and safety standards.
Experience with global engineering teams and multi-site manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Lead development and standardization of controls architectures and automation standards across global operations.
Oversee qualification, validation, and acceptance testing of automation systems.
Conduct machine safety assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with U.S., China, and WH Group teams on technology transfer.
Drive next-generation automation and digital manufacturing initiatives.
Evaluate processing controls, packaging systems, robotics, and end-of-line solutions.
Lead capital projects as controls/automation SME.
