Smithfield Foods is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to lead controls architecture, robotics, and machine vision initiatives across global operations. You will drive qualification, validation, and compliance, collaborating with U.S. and China teams to scale best practices.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in industrial automation, strong PLC/HMI knowledge, and proven leadership. This role requires significant travel and relocation flexibility as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Automation/Robotics Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation, controls, robotics, or manufacturing engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, controls architecture, and machine safety systems.
• Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and safety systems.
• Experience working with global engineering teams, international OEMs, and multi-site manufacturing organizations preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, UL, and electrical code requirements.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• Ability to travel domestically greater than 50% and internationally as required.

Responsabilités

• Automation & Controls Strategy: Lead development, review, and standardization of controls architectures, PLCs, HMIs, networks, data platforms, and standards.
• Technology Qualification & Validation: Lead qualification, validation, and acceptance testing of automation and advanced manufacturing systems.
• Machine Safety & Compliance: Conduct safety assessments and reviews to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Global Technology Transfer: Collaborate with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer and standardize technologies.
• Innovation & Smart Manufacturing: Develop and implement next-gen automation, robotics, AI-enabled inspection, and digital manufacturing.
• Equipment & Systems Evaluation: Evaluate processing controls, packaging, robotics, machine vision, and traceability solutions.
• Supplier & System Assessment: Conduct supplier audits and system validation early in projects.
• Capital Project Leadership: Lead as controls/automation/engineering SME for strategic projects.
