Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County Alabama is seeking a Geographic Information System Supervisor in Birmingham to lead GIS/IT staff, oversee database operations, and coordinate data-driven projects. The role focuses on GIS hardware/software, data integrity, and policy-aligned solutions.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, maintaining GIS databases, and coordinating with vendors; extensive knowledge of ArcGIS, SQL, and reporting tools is required.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or leading GIS/IT staff, including training and review.
• Experience creating/editing GIS databases (Esri, ArcGIS, MapInfo) including fields and dropdowns.
• Experience maintaining GIS databases with spatial analysis and data extraction.
• Experience with database reporting software (Crystal Reports, ArcGIS data reporting).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and create department reports and documentation.
• Enter/modify GIS records in databases and on maps.
• Update complex records in GIS databases (rights of way, roads, annexations).
• Verify accuracy of GIS information and assign records to staff.
• Coordinate cross-department projects and communicate progress.
• Supervise staff and provide training.
• Participate in GIS vendor software/equipment selection.
• Provide service to internal and external customers.
