Job summary

The City of Birmingham is seeking a qualified Geographic Information System (GIS) Supervisor to manage GIS resources, coordinate hardware and software planning, and guide staff in a professional, policy-driven environment.

Ideal candidates will have extensive GIS mapping knowledge, data management skills, and experience supervising or leading teams within an IT or GIS setting, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of GIS projects.

Qualifications

• Supervisory or lead experience in GIS/IT environments.
• Experience editing GIS databases (ArcGIS, SQL/Oracle) and spatial data.
• Experience maintaining GIS databases with spatial analysis and data extraction.
• Familiarity with Crystal Reports or GIS data reporting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and create department workflows, track productivity, and prepare reports.
• Enter/modify GIS records in databases and paper maps.
• Coordinate cross-department projects and communicate progress.
• Supervise staff, provide training, and assign tasks.
• Participate in GIS vendor software/equipment selection.
• Provide internal/external customer service.
