Job summary

UPMC in Pittsburgh seeks a Senior Medical Assistant to provide clinical support, mentor team members, and collaborate with providers to deliver patient-centered care while coordinating efficient clinical workflows.

The role leads day-to-day office procedures, supports infection control, and ensures a positive patient experience across the Gastroenterology department. You will assist with patient flow, record handling, and participate in ongoing staff training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA).
• At least 1 year of patient care experience.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Guides workflow and/or assigns tasks to other clinical staff.
• Mentors, orients and provides ongoing training to current and new staff members.
• Serve as the department super user for Epic Care.
• Identify opportunities for improvement in Clinical/Non-Clinical functions, Infection Control Procedures, and Patient Assessments.
• Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
• Prepare and manage charts; maintain infection control and supply inventories.
• Assist patients with movements, prepare for exam, collect specimens and relay instructions.
