Job summary

Invenergy LLC in Chicago, IL seeks a Principal Geothermal Engineer to lead subsurface technical efforts for geothermal power plants from development through COD. The role coordinates across teams, drives reservoir modelling, heat transfer, and design optimization, and supports procurement and contracting activities.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years managing geothermal projects, strong geoscience background, and demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Travel up to 25% will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physics or engineering is preferred or geosciences with geothermal project experience.
• 5+ years managing technical/engineering teams for geothermal projects.
• Experience in site surveys, heat transfer and reservoir modelling is required.
• Excellent communication and leadership across organizational levels.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% during project phases.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate project efforts from development to COD under senior management guidance.
• Advise feasibility based on geothermal tech and project constraints.
• Lead reservoir modelling, heat transfer and overall project design collaboration.
• Prepare and coordinate financial modeling with the commercial finance team.
• Manage cross-disciplinary workload and interface with contractors and vendors.
• Monitor progress, report risks, and ensure delivery within budget and schedule.
• Support permitting and development efforts including electrical interconnection.
