Job summary

Intertek Building & Construction in Fairfax, VA seeks a Regional Engineer - Geotechnical to lead geotechnical projects across Transportation and infrastructure. This is a senior, client-facing role within Intertek-PSI.

The candidate must hold a Bachelors and Masters in geotechnical engineering, 10+ years experience, Virginia P.E., and proficiency in GeoStudio, APILE, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, Midas, SLIDE, Settle3D, MSEW. Strong communication and ability to mentor staff are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from accredited engineering / ABET school AND Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering are Required
• 10+ years' of experience is required
• Virginia P.E. License is required or ability to obtain in State of residence of employment and adjacent States as needed
• Proficient in GeoStudio, APILE, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, Midas, SLIDE, Settle3D, and MSEW, and other proprietary Geotechnical Engineering Analysis software
• Obtain Principal Consultant status internally (CS 5 years’ experience/Geo 8 years’ experience)
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
• Candidates must have very strong communication skills and the ability to work with a team across the nation and the world
• Ability to work off shifts and overtime

Responsibilities

• Provide geotechnical engineering support on multiple project types.
• Perform independent evaluations using standard geotechnical engineering techniques and make modifications as needed.
• Interpret test results and project conditions to make recommendations.
• Prepare and review geotechnical reports per specifications and scope.
• Assign work to staff as applicable.
• Coordinate with local/remote staff to accomplish tasks.
• Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules for tasks.
• Review recommendations with Principal Consultant/Chief Engineer.
• Engage with clients and develop new project opportunities.
• Attend client site meetings.
• Communicate effectively with clients and project teams; attend site meetings as appropriate.
• Train and mentor technical staff.
• May perform on-site observations or inspections.
• Adhere to safety practices and policies.
