Job summary

NV5, Inc. in Charlotte, NC seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to lead our geotechnical team and deliver project-critical investigations. The role requires a PE license or eligibility to become registered in North Carolina within 3 months.

You will oversee field work, analyze soils and foundations, develop reports, and support client relationships while mentoring staff and advancing business opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
• PE license required (or ability to become registered in North Carolina within 3 months of hire).
• Minimum of 8 years of geotechnical engineering experience with a proven delivery track record.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; numerical modeling a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the geotechnical engineering team, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Oversee planning, design, and implementation of geotechnical investigations and analyses.
• Develop and review geotechnical reports, proposals, and project documentation.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure project success.
• Conduct site visits and field inspections to assess soil and rock conditions.
• Utilize advanced geotechnical software for modeling and analysis.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Participate in business development activities, including client meetings and proposal preparation.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering and incorporate them into practice.
